Summer Extension
Summer Extension aims to cater for students who have a genuine need for student housing during the gap period between Summer Residence and the upcoming Residential Year, subject to availability.
Students MUST have
• a valid residence in Summer, AND
• a valid Full-Year residence in the upcoming Residential Year
Eligible students with major round offers for upcoming Residential Years can indicate their interest in Room Retention and Summer Extension during the Roommate Preference Exercise. Then, other eligible students will receive an email invitation (usually in June - July) to apply for a Summer Extension via an online system. Application results and any other related information will be then announced via email by early August.
Summer extension is designed to cater for those who have difficulty in finding other accommodation for the gap period, but not the retaining of any specific room for any specific period. Applicants should expect room relocations, below are the room relocation arrangements:
- Residents with different room assignments in Summer & Upcoming Fall must move between rooms IN PERSON ON SPECIFIED DATES as informed by SHRLO.
- Residents are expected to make themselves available throughout the specified period for the relocation. Those who are not certain about their plans should NOT apply for Summer Extension.
- Residents will NOT be able to choose their preferred relocation date and time (if relocation is required).
- Follow-up actions (e.g. penalty charges, room clearance and cancellation of any future offered residence) will apply to those who fail to cope with the relocation arrangements
Hall Charges for Summer Extension are calculated by referencing the rates for Summer Residence and in pro-rata to the extension period. The amount will be posted to the Student Information System (SIS) in due course and student can view their charge statement via myPortal at HERE.
Failure to settle the hall charges IN FULL by the payment due date will result in the cancellation of the extension offer without prior notification.

- Payment methods accepted by the University are available HERE.
- After payment at the bank or through online banking, keep the payment record as proof in case verification is needed.
- If you encounter any financial difficulties that you wish to defer the payment, you may apply to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office (SFAO) for deferment of the payment of hall charges. Information is available HERE.
