Chapter II: PG Hall Admission Methods
All applicants will be considered and assessed in the following order:
Part 1. Priority Housing
Admitted before 2026-27: | Guaranteed residence in their first two years of RPg careers* in HKUST (2 years) |
Admitted in or after 2026-27: | Guaranteed residence^ in their first year of RPg careers* in HKUST (1 year) |
* RPg careers: Under the PG Hall Allocation Policy, the number of years a student has spent in their HKUST RPg studies—both MPhil and PhD—is counted cumulatively. E.g. a first-year PhD student who has already completed a 2-year MPhil program at HKUST will not be eligible for priority housing.
^ Both on-campus and off-campus housing
Part 2. Waiting List
Applicants who do not receive a guaranteed housing offer will be ranked and placed on the waiting list. When bed spaces become available, students on the waiting list will be contacted with an offer of University housing according to their ranking on the waiting list.
Ranking will be considered and assessed in the following order:
(1) In-time RPgs
In-time RPgs are RPgs studying with the standard study period: 2 years for MPhil students; 3 years for PhD students who entered the program with a relevant MPhil degree; and 4 years for PhD students without a relevant MPhil degree.
(2) Out-time RPgs
RPgs studying beyond the period defined as "In-time RPgs".
Applicants not receiving any housing offer but who can demonstrate exceptional need or hardship may be considered. Please refer to Annex I: Guideline for Special Applications with Exceptional Hardship for details.
